บทคัดย่อ

Competitive Advantage in the Exports of Processed and Canned Seafood for Thailand

This study aimed to investigate the competitive advantage, the factors affected the competitiveness of canned and processed seafood products in Thai export industry. It also aimed to propose a policy for the development of food processing industry in Thailand.

The results showed that 5 groups of canned and processed seafood products which exported to Saudi Arabia, are Sardines, Tuna, Squid, clams and Prawns. The competitive advantage of Thailand in Saudi Arabia has decreased. Thailand also had a competitive advantage in UAE, however only the competitive advantage of tuna and prawns has increased.

The study also showed that the competitive advantage of Thailand is in the medium level, the production process and standard of product are a most important factors. Competition within country helps creating research and developing standard of the product. The disadvantage factor of Thailand is internal small market which consumer prefer to consume more fresh seafood more than canned and processed seafood. This situation does not leads to the economy of scale and the development of the product.
