The Study of Families Identity in the Family Series “Reply” (응답하라)

Abstract

The objective of this article was to study families identity in the series which the identity approach was applied as a framework in this research. Data were collected from the series broadcasted in Korea which were divided into 3 episodes including Reply 1997, 1994, and 1988. The content in each episode was presented turning back time to situations according to the years mentioned. In each episode, the content would emphasize on various relationships of love such as family, friends, beloved, or even fans and their idols. The result revealed that there were four identities; 1. Emphasizing on family issues of their members, 2. Giving love and concern toward them, 3. Father figure must be strong type, 4. Mother figure must be sacrificial. It might be claimed that these three episodes of the series pay the most attention to the relationships among family members This series was not only presented various identities toward family but a history of South Korea in each period also.
