The Guideline Development for Sustainable Tourism of Eastern Coast in Chonburi Province

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the tourism resources of Chonburi Province, 2) analyze the SWOT analysis for the sustainable tourism of the eastern coast in Chonburi province 3) build  the guidelines of development for the sustainable tourism at the eastern coast in Chonburi Province. Qualitative research was used, together with focus group interviews and observation techniques. The tools of this study were Community Study checklist, Tourism Resources Audit, and in – depth interview techniques.


According to the results, it was found that 1) the important tourism resources of Chonburi Province are Pattaya beach, Bangsaen beach, Koh Larn island, Koh Si Chang Island, Khao Khiao-Khao Chom Phu Wildlife Sanctuary, Wat Yansangwararam Woramahawihan temple and Wat Yai Intharam temple. Interesting tourism activities are: touring the island, coral snorkeling and trekking in nature at Khao Khiao-khao Chom Phu Wildlife Sanctuary. 2) There are several strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the Guideline Development for Sustainable Tourism of Eastern Coast in Chonburi Province from SWOT Analysis. Strengths: the location is the Eastern Coast gateway from Suwannaphum airport to Utapao airport. Natural resources are distinguished, and the beautiful landscape is a world-renowned tourist destination (World Class Destination). Weakness: Lack of strategic planning and strategic resource for sustainable tourism Opportunities: Create a tourism brand “The Eastern Coast Tourism” to support the Chinese India and ASEAN market, and government support for a world-class tourist area. Threats: Changes in ecosystems are an obstacle to sustainable tourism development. 3) It is proposed that Development Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism at Eastern Coast of Chonburi Province should be an integration among government, private sectors, residents and tourists to achieve sustainable tourism development in Chonburi Province.
