Understanding of the Principles of Writing Lyrics and Using Chords for Songwriting: Case Study of Inmates in the Drug Inmates Therapy Project, the Special Correctional Institution, Klong Prem Central Prison

Abstract

       The objectives of this study are (1) a case study on the knowledge and basic skills of the inmates participating in the Music Therapy program. That they can understand the principles of composition and use of chords correctly Although not receiving a musical education from the school system, (2) To propose principles and methods of providing music knowledge and skills to inmates. (3) To benefit the development of teaching and learning subjects in the international music curriculum. By experimenting for students to be a contributor to music Which will bring about the self-development of the students themselves

       In this study, 30 inmates participated in the project. The sample group were drug-addict prisoners in the special treatment facility. Klong Prem Central Prison Operated under the project "Returning good people to society" of the Western Music Program, Chandrakasem Rajabhat University Is to find ways to develop behavior
By organizing workshops target groups These include the inmates who are able to play music and have an interest in song composing. In order to contribute to the understanding of composition, lyrics and the use of chords. By the instructor for the inmates to use the precedent of the speaker To compose the lyrics and chords according to the principles of international music theory Which is the goal of this training.

               The results of the study found that (1) Even after only 12 weeks of the training program, the inmates who participated in the project had a better understanding of the principles of composition and the use of chords. If appropriate training content is provided for prisoners (2) It is good for prisoners to begin composing songs from simple melodies. (3) Students gain experience of life by communicating with prisoners and have the opportunity to develop appropriate methods of transferring music education to the learner.
