Analytical Study of Apocalypse, Beliefs and Inheritance of Yantra Candle (Pong Tian) in Lanna

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the history of Yantra Candle; 2) to study writing Yantra Candle; 3) to propose a method for the continuation of writing Yantra Candle. It is qualitative research using tools such as the study of documented information and in-depth interviews by a group of 16 key informants for analysis beliefs and the continuation of Yantra Candle (Pong Tian) in Lanna society.

The results of this research found that: the history and background of Yantra Candle has been passed down for many eras. Before the Buddhist era when Brahminism was very prosperous. Later, Buddhism entered Lanna society and relied on traditional beliefs mixed with Brahmanism until the Burma and Lanna period received Indian Buddhism and culture in terms of historical relations, belief, religion and practice. The Yantra is divided into 2 types: 1) hope for good results; 2) hope for the bad side. The making of Yantra Candle will extend the astrologer principles and practices for the candle makers and worshipers in order to create Phuttanupap, Dharma, Sangkhanupha, and result in an anchor in Lanna society. While writing the Yantra Candle has brought the Buddhist teachings to remember the virtues of the Buddha, the Dhamma, the Sangha. The practice guidelines for morality, virtue, and good conscience with author and the worshiper of the candle must follow the principles of Dharma. especially the threefold training (Trisikkhā) as well such as bass of meritorious action because it is believed that will surely make more effective and effective according to the beliefs that have been practiced. The conservation of writing of Yantra Candle can be classified into 4 things, namely: 1) knowledge transfer; 2) to be enhanced the local scholars; 3) creative activities; 4) Yantra Candle Learning Center to inherit local wisdom and drive to become a group/network to preserve Yantra Candle in the Lanna society.
