Development Strategy of the Operation concerning Library of Standard School at Chomthong School, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the operation of the library at Chomthong school according to the standards of the school library and to build the strategy for the operation of the Chomthong school library, Chiang Mai Province.  Data were collected by using a 5 rating scale questionnaire.  Informants were 123 administrators and teachers at Chomthong school and 331 student samplings.  Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the estimated population

The research results revealed that the operation of the library at Chomthong school according to the standards of the school library under the Office of the Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education, 2013 was overall at a high level, in terms of administrators, premises and supplies, learners, teachers, librarians and library staffs, and information resources were at a high level.   As regards the results of the operation of the library at Chomthong school was evaluated by learners, teachers, librarians and library staffs in overall at a high level, in terms of the administrators, learners, information resources, premises and supplies were over all at a moderate level.  

Moreover, as regards the problems and recommendations concerning the operation of the library at Chomthong school, Chiang Mai Province according to the opinions of the administrators, librarians and library staffs, and teachers and educational personnel; in terms of administrators found that there was less budget for the library to buy books and to improve the library to be modern, the recommendations were the budget should be allocated to develop the library to be more international and modern; in terms of teachers, librarians and library staffs found that the librarians should be supported to provide a variety of reading promotion activities proactively and continuously, the recommendations were the school should provide a variety of reading promotion activities proactively and continuously; in terms of learners found that the learners cannot use information correctly, lack of knowledge and understanding, the recommendations were the students should be educated concerning the usefulness of information; in terms of the information resources found that books on the shelves were not in order, difficult to find, use a lot of time; the recommendations were the library staffs and the young librarians should always check the books regularly; and in terms of premises and supplies found that the conditions of book were old, no attraction and no interesting, the recommendations were the books should be developed to attract more interesting and more modern.

As regards the results of the library committee's workshop to draft a strategy for the operation of the library at Chomthong school, Chiang Mai Province were as follows: 1) To develop the library management system for Chomthong school. 2) To encourage the students to have reading habits, and 3) To strengthen the participation of all sectors in the school library management effectively.
