Guidelines for Participation in the Conservation of Community Forests Buddhist Way of the Community, Mae Kua Sub-district, Sop Prap District, Lampang Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the methods of community forest 2) to study the factors related to community forest management 3) to study participation in the conservation of Buddhist way community forests of Mae Kua sub-district community, Sop Prap district, Lampang province. It used a mixed methodology, the quantitative research used questionnaires from a sample of 270 people and qualitative research used interviews with 10 key informants, in order to propose the participation in the conservation of buddhist way community forests and statistical analysis and content description.

The results of this research found that:

1. Methods for managing community forests by creating forest fire prevention, reduce deforestation, enhancing forests in empty areas and cultivate awareness.
2. The actors related to community forest management as; the leadership role for sporting forest protection activities, an awareness of community forest conservation, the government absolutely providing knowledge of conservation for community forests and campaigning for communities using renewable resources.
3. The participation in the conservation of community forests Buddhist way as: refraining from clearing the bark that causes the tree to die, to Participate in reforestation in degraded areas, to participate in the ordination ceremony, to explore the forest destiny that shows love and cherish for the community forest. So, the ways of participation in the conservation of Buddhist way community forests should apply the Padhãna for practice that is: 1) Samvara-padhãna; the community should make a forest fire prevention line to protect the fertile forest area 2) Pahãna-padhãna; the community should campaign to refrain from cutting trees, refrain from burning and refrain from hunting of animals 3) Bhãvana-padhãna; The community should promote the planting of perennial trees and to develop the environment in the community forest 4) Annurakkhanã-padhãna; the community should hold a forest ordination ceremony and maintain the community forest social rules.
