Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this research was to examine ideology in Lao language textbooks for primary school grades 1-5, published between 2020-2023, by Institute for Educational Science Research, Ministry of Education and Sports, Lao People's Democratic Republic. Using the ideology framework, the study found that Lao language textbooks in primary school presented three ideologies: 1) ideology about natural resources and the environment, 2) ideology about culture, and 3) ideology about nation and religion. The study also found that environmental and natural issues were the most common, reflecting concerns and awareness of environmental changes in Lao society. In terms of culture, it emphasized the importance of Buddhism. The ideological mechanisms in the textbooks were three types: 1) the creation of a relationship between humans and nature in terms of interdependence and the importance of nature to human life, 2) the relationship between humans and humans, and 3) reproduction for inheritance, which was the reproduction of the importance of culture and Buddhism, simplicity, peace, and kinship.
