Preservice Teachers’ Motivation for using Artificial Intelligence and Suggestions for Improving Motivation Preservice Teachers’ Motivation to Use Artificial Intelligence and Suggestions for Development
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate preservice teachers’ motivation to use artificial intelligence, compare the motivation to use artificial intelligence between male and female preservice teachers, and explore their suggestions. Data were collected from 518 participants. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, an independent samples t-test, and content analysis. The research findings were as follows.
- The results indicated that preservice teachers perceived themselves as having a relatively high level of motivation to use artificial intelligence (M = 3.78, S.D. = 0.66). When considering each component, the findings revealed that utility value was the factor with the highest level of motivation (M = 3.93, S.D. = 0.74), followed by attainment value (M = 3.82, S.D. = 0.72), intrinsic value/interest (M = 3.80, S.D. = 0.77), cost (M = 3.72, S.D. = 0.78), and expectancy (M = 3.65, S.D. = 0.73), respectively.
- The comparison of motivation to use artificial intelligence between preservice teachers with different genders revealed that there was no statistically significant difference in motivation between male and female preservice teachers.
- The development of motivation to use artificial intelligence should begin with strengthening self-confidence and expectancy for success through scaffolded learning activities, failure-safe environments, and continuous feedback. At the policy level, it is recommended to establish a supportive learning ecosystem, reduce psychological barriers, and integrate artificial intelligence competencies into program-level learning outcomes in order to promote sustainable AI use and enhance the teaching profession in the long term.
