About the Journal

Objectives and Scope:

Chiang Mai University Journal of Economics (CMJE) was established in 1996 and is published by the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University. The journal has been indexed in the Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) Tier 3 since 2025.

Aims and Scope

CMJE aims to serve as a primary channel for disseminating academic and research progress in Economics, including but not limited to:            

- Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics            

- Financial Economics, Monetary Economics, and Public Economics            

- Development Economics, Labor Economics, and International Economics            

- Agricultural Economics, Environmental Economics, and Energy Economics            

- Managerial Economics and Supply Chain Economics

Types of Manuscripts Accepted and Language          

CMJE accepts original research articles and review articles within the journal’s scope. Manuscripts are accepted in both Thai and English.

Publication Frequency

The journal is published semiannually (two issues per year), as follows:          

- Issue 1: January–June          

- Issue 2: July–December

Call for Submissions          

CMJE accepts manuscript submissions year-round on a rolling basis, with no fixed submission deadline. The order and timing of publication depend on the manuscript’s readiness after completing the review and revision process and the journal’s publication schedule.

Guidelines and Considerations for Article Submission and Publication

The editorial board of the Chiang Mai University Journal of Economics (CMJE) has established submission guidelines for authors as a reference for submitting articles for publication. The editorial board also reserves the right to review articles prior to publication to ensure the journal maintains high-quality standards and remains a reliable source for academic citation.

Article Criteria

  1. The article must be an academic or research paper in various fields of economics, such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial economics, international economics, labor economics, managerial economics, transportation and logistics economics, agricultural economics, natural resource and environmental economics, econometrics, development economics, public economics, energy economics, political economy, community economics, behavioral economics, industrial economics, and other related fields. The editorial board will assess whether submissions align with the journal’s objectives and scope.
  2. The article must be written in either Thai or English and pertain to economics within the specified scope or other relevant disciplines.
  3. The article must be original, unpublished, and must not have been previously presented at any academic conference. Additionally, they must not be under consideration for publication in any other journal.
  4. Submitted articles must have a Similarity Index of no more than 25%, as verified by Turnitin. If the similarity index exceeds the specified threshold, authors must revise and resubmit the article for further consideration.

Publication Fees

Chiang Mai University Journal of Economics (CMJE) has no policy of charging any publication fees (Article Processing Charges, APCs) to authors at any stage of the quality evaluation and publication process.

Manuscript Preparation and Submission Requirements

Authors must prepare their manuscripts according to the following requirements:

  1. Language and Formatting
    • Manuscripts must undergo spelling and grammatical checks before submission.
    • Research and academic articles should include the following components:
  • First page: Title, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), abstract, keywords (maximum of 5), and JEL Classification Codes (available at JEL Codes).
  • Main content: Introduction, research methodology, results, discussion, conclusion and recommendations, acknowledgments (if applicable), and references formatted according to APA Style. Authors may adjust sections as appropriate.

1.3 Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word, using A4 paper with single spacing. Margins should be set as follows:

  • Top and left margins: 1.5 inches
  • Bottom and right margins: 1 inch

For English manuscripts (Times New Roman):

  • Table titles, table contents, and figure captions: 10

  1. Tables and Figures:
  • Titles for figures should be placed below the image.
  • Titles for tables should be placed above the table.
  • All tables, figures, and graphs must be in English, even if the article is written in Thai.
  1. Mathematical Equations:
  • Clearly define all mathematical symbols and variables.
  • Empirical data should specify sources, definitions, and timeframes.
  • Equations should be center-aligned, with equation numbers aligned to the right margin.
  • Use Microsoft Equation 3.0 for equations (Insert > Object > Object type = Microsoft Equation 3.0 > OK).
  1. Citations and References:
  • Citations and references must follow APA Style and use Roman script only.
  • Thai references must be translated into English with “(in Thai)” at the end.

  • Use superscript numbering for footnotes in the main text.

Article Submission

Peer Review Policy and Review Process (Double-Blind Peer Review)

CMJE applies a double-blind peer review system, meaning:

  • Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors.

  • Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.

Review Process

  1. Each manuscript is pre-screened by the Editor. The Editor may request revisions before the refereeing process.

  2. Once a manuscript passes pre-screening, it will be double-blind reviewed by three expert reviewers whose expertise matches the subject area and who are approved by the editorial board. Reviewers are selected based on academic expertise, research experience, and the absence of conflicts of interest.

  3. The Editorial Board makes the final decision based on reviewers’ comments.

Reviewers may include experts both external to and within the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, provided that the selection ensures independence and no conflicts of interest.

Timeline: The journal aims to provide a primary response to authors within 8 weeks of the date of submission. The duration of the complete acceptance process will vary depending on the revisions required.

Open Access Policy

The Chiang Mai University Journal of Economics (CMJE) has an Open Access policy. The journal provides free access to information and articles, free of charge, and can be accessed worldwide via the internet. Readers may read, download, and print articles at no cost. Any use, citation, or redistribution must properly and appropriately reference the original publication.

Journal History

The Chiang Mai University Journal of Economics published its first issue for the July–September period in B.E. 2539 (1996). The journal was established to disseminate scholarly work in economics and to serve as a medium for reporting academic progress.
