Development of Bags from Yawng Textiles in Lamphun Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to 1) study the colorfastness of cotton yarns dyed from the bark of Longan, 2) design bag products from Yawng textiles in Lamphun province and 3) study and compare the consumers’ satisfaction with bag products from Yawng textiles in Lamphun province in aspects of the beauty, usefulness, and suitability of motifs. The sampling group was 100 consumers who were interested in bag products. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, One-way ANOVA and Least Significant Different (LSD). The study of cotton yarns dyed from the bark of Longan found that the colorfastness to laundering of the color change was at the 2.5 level (fairly good), the color staining was at the 3.5 level (good) and the colorfastness to the light was at the 3.5 level (good). The four types of bag products were: backpacks, clutch bags, messenger bags, and handheld bags. They comprised two motifs which were the Dok Ko and the Dok Bua Khruea. The consumers were  extremely satisfied with every style and motif of bag products. Bag styles did not affect the consumers’ satisfaction in the aspects of beauty and suitability of motifs with the statistical significance at the .05 level. However, the usefulness affected consumers’ satisfaction and the customers were more satisfied with backpacks and clutch bags than handheld bags with the statistical significance at the level of .05.
