Development of a Communication Mechanism Model for Community Participation in Crisis Communication from Pandemic Situation of Covid-19 in the Southern Border Area

Abstract
This study aimed to 1) evaluate the potential participatory communication of local communities with high and low risks in crisis communication from Covid-19 in the southern border area, 2) compare the potential participatory communication of local communities with high and low risks in crisis communication, and 3) build a model for community participation during Covid-19 involving communication crisis. The study area was in Khuean Bang Lang Subdistrict, Bannang Sata District, Yala Province and the Na Pradu Subdistrict, Khok Pho District, Pattani Province. This study used qualitative and quantitative data. For qualitative data, we used a sample group of 135 people. Regarding quantitative data, questionnaires were collected from a sample group of 400 people. The results of the study found that high and low-risk areas of participatory communication concerning five dimensions: the public, early announcement, trust, planning, and transparency. People’s perceptions before, during, and after the crisis influenced communication participation with 55.5 percent of R2. Crisis communication during the pandemic, which affected participatory communication, was statistically significant at .001. The highest coefficient was .459. Finally, the communication mechanism model consisted of inputs, process, outputs, and feedback. The results of the research revealed that government organizations should pay attention to village health volunteers in promoting the role of creating and planning participatory communication with people. In addition, government agencies should adjust and apply plans or measurements that relate to the needs of people to reduce conflicts among people in the community.
