Abstract

This study has its goal to evaluate an effective web application platform for energy data communication in an office building by comparing between visual data and statistical data web application in order to evaluate the results of the proposed model’s persuasive effects.
The participants in the study are forty office workers who work in Chamchuri 5, Chulalongkorn University. The study has been applied mixed
research methods whichinclude qualitativeand quantitativeresearch.Theinformation wascollected by a focus group and rating scale surveys to examine the persuasion levels regarding the topic of energy reduction in the office building. The study is to be conducted in the period of three weeks and the participants are to receive three different web application platforms for each week.
The majorfindingshaverevealed that theeffectiveenergycommunication web application must include six following elements such as 1) Information and suggestion of how to decrease energy consumption, 2) Energy self-monitoring, 3) Energy consumption comparison, 4) Energy
consumption rewards, 5) Application instructions, and 6) Notification message. There are different results in each application which indicates the persuasion levels with the statistical significance level at 0.05 for each application. It was discovered that the virtual pet is the most persuasive application. While the second is virtual farm. The least effective application is statistical data. In conclusion, for this study, thevirtual pet web applicationis the most persuasiveapproach because the participants can choose their favorite types of pets which motivate participants’ emotions. In addition, the suggestions for future research are develop integrated platforms of web application between the virtual pet which is the most effective method and the statistical data and analyze an actual energy data usage of Chamchuri 5 building before and after web application testing for a further study.
