Effects of Personal Characteristics, Job Characteristics and Organizational Characteristics on Burnout in the Transition Period of State Enterprise: A Case Study of Rubber Estate Organization

Abstract

  Burnout will be occurred when there is a discrepancy between what the organization expects and what the organization provides, and this will lead to employee dissatisfaction. Changing organizational structure also affects employee job satisfaction as it may increase work load, bring unsatisfactory relationship and injustice, and these are all the causes of burnout. However, individual personality differences have a different effect on burnout. Thus, it is important to consider personal characteristics along with job characteristics and organizational characteristics in order to prevent employee burnout. This study aimed to investigate relationships and impacts of the three factors: personal characteristics, job characteristics, and organizational characteristics on burnout of employees in the state enterprise which is in the restructuring process. The research samples were 152 previous employees from Rubber Estate Organization of Thailand before it was united with the Rubber Research Institute and the Office of the Rubber Replanting Aid Fund, then became the Rubber Authority of Thailand. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The results from this study explained relationships and impacts of the three factors on burnout in various dimensions including justice and organizational culture. Considering these three factors before or after the transition period would be a useful tool for structuring the organization that will create job satisfaction, and prevent burnout situation.
