Effects of Using Board Game Combined with Online Learning Resources to Enhance Chemical Laboratory Skills and Attitudes Toward Chemistry of Upper Secondary School Students

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of learning activities using a board game integrated with online learning resources on chemical laboratory skills and attitudes toward learning chemistry among upper secondary school students. The sample consisted of 35 upper secondary school students from Dipangkornwittayapat (Thawi Watthana) School under Royal Patronage in the 2025 academic year. The sample was selected using cluster random sampling. The research instruments included a board game, lesson plans, a chemical laboratory skills test, and an attitude toward chemistry questionnaire. The learning activities were conducted for a total of 240 minutes (4 hours). Data were collected before and after the implementation of the learning activities and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test.

The results revealed that after the implementation of the learning activities, students’ chemical laboratory skills were significantly higher than before learning at the .05 level. The mean score for chemical laboratory skills increased from M = 10.40 to M = 16.26. At the same time, students’ attitudes toward learning chemistry improved, with the mean score increasing from M = 3.24 to M = 4.33. In addition, most students reported that the use of the board game helped them better understand laboratory equipment and experimental procedures and increased their interest in learning chemistry.
