บทคัดย่อ
บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษา (1) ท่าทีของพระพุทธศาสนาที่มีต่อโสเภณีทั้งหลาย ความหมาย ความเป็นมา และ (2) วิเคราะห์คุณธรรม ความจริงทางประสาทสัมผัส คุณค่า และประโยชน์บางประการของโสเภณีในมุมมองเชิงปรัชญาที่ปรากฏในสังคมและในคัมภีร์พระพุทธศาสนาโดยการสะท้อนผ่านสังคมในอดีตและสังคมในปัจจุบันในบางแง่มุมของความคิด โสเภณีในสังคมไทยก็ดี ต่างประเทศก็ดี มีความเป็นมาตั้งแต่สมัยโบราณ เกี่ยวข้องกับทั้งศาสนาและสังคม ส่วนโสเภณีในพระพุทธศาสนามีปรากฏในคัมภีร์หลายเรื่อง แต่ละเรื่องได้สะท้อนทัศนคติ มุมมอง ปัญหาและภูมิหลังทางสังคมของคนในยุคนั้นเป็นอย่างดี จากการศึกษาเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้อง ทำให้ผู้เขียนมีมุมมองบางประการในเรื่องของโสเภณี คนส่วนใหญ่มักจะมองโสเภณีในด้านลบ เป็นอาชีพที่น่ารังเกียจ ไม่น่ายกย่อง ไร้ศักดิ์ศรีความเป็นมนุษย์ เป็นอาชีพที่ผิดกฎหมาย ขัดต่อศีลธรรมที่ดีงามของสังคม ไม่ยอมรับโสเภณี บางสังคมก็รับโสเภณีได้ ส่วนท่าทีของพระพุทธศาสนาที่มีต่อโสเภณีนั้น ได้สะท้อนให้เห็นว่า โสเภณีเป็นบุคคลประเภทหนึ่งที่สะท้อนความจริง ความจำเป็นพื้นฐานและโอกาสทางสังคมบางอย่าง รวมทั้งหน้าที่ ความรับผิดชอบต่อตนเองและสังคม สนับสนุนและสร้างประโยชน์ที่ยิ่งใหญ่ต่อศาสนาและสังคมบางอย่างที่มีอยู่ภายใต้ร่มเงาของอาชีพนี้ซึ่งคนส่วนใหญ่มักจะมองข้ามไป

ABSTRACT
The objectives of this article were: (1) to study the attitude of Buddhism toward prostitutes, meaning, and history and (2) to analyze morality, sensational fact, value and some benefits in philosophical views appeared in society and Buddhism scriptures by reflecting through society in the past and present. Prostitutes in both Thailand and abroadhave had a history from the ancient time, which related with both religions and societies. However, prostitutes in Buddhism appeared in many texts. Each text has reflected the attitude, viewpoint, problems and social background of people in that period as well. From studies of related documents cause a writer to have some viewpoints in the case of prostitutes. Most people look at prostitutes in the negative
way, such as a bad career choice, dishonorable, non-admirable, do not have prestige of human beings, an illegal career, contrary to the good morality of society, and unacceptable. Some society accepts them, though. But the attitude of Buddhism toward the prostitutes reflected that they are a kind of people reflecting the reality, fundamental necessity, some social opportunity, including duty, responsibility of oneself and society, support and create some great benefits to religion and society under the shadow of this career which most of people would always look down. Keywords : attitude, prostitutes, attitude of Buddhism, sensational fact and value.
