Anyeint in Mandalay, Myanmar

Abstract

This academic article presented Anyeint performance which showed in Mandalay. Anyeint is a traditional performance in Myanmar like Likae (music folk drama) or Jumoud (comedian show) in Thailand. This article studied the history, the show pattern and the music of Anyeint performance in Mandalay. The data collected from document which related research and field study. Anyeint had the origin from royal court dancing when Myanmar became a colony of England, Anyeint changed performance pattern at the royal court to show it to the general public. The performance pattern has changed from formal pattern to playful pattern for the general public. Therefore, this performance is popular in Myanmar from past to present. Anyeint performance in Mandalay has 4 major compositions includes; 1) dance 2) sing 3) dramatics and 4. comedian show. Hsaing Waing (Myanmar traditional band) and Western pop band are two kinds of band which used in Anyeint performance.
