Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Chinese Major Students Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Rajabhat Mahasarakham University

Abstract

This research consists purposes were to study the cross-cultural adaptation of fourth-year Chinese language students in the Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language program at Southwest Forestry University (西南林业大学), People's Republic of China. This is a quantitative research study. The research instrument used was a questionnaire based on a 5-point rating scale. The target group consisted of 26 fourth-year students enrolled in the Chinese language teaching program as a foreign language, selected through purposive sampling. The data collected from the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean and standard deviation. The research findings revealed that the overall cross-cultural adaptation of students in the Chinese Language Program Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University was at a good level (x̅ = 3.96, S.D. = 0.70). When considering each aspect in descending order of the mean scores, the highest was in the area of learning (x̅ = 4.10, S.D. = 0.77), followed by communication (x̅ = 4.00, S.D. = 0.47) and the lowest was in the area of social adaptation (x̅ = 3.38, S.D. = 0.87).
