Awareness of growing social and environmental problems leads to a concept of social entrepreneurship (SE), which is a combination of entrepreneurial business skills with the target of tackling social issues. The concept has been accepted as a potential approach for achieving sustainable societal transformation and has become an emerging discipline of social science in numerous institutions worldwide. In Thailand, however, SE is regarded as a new discipline and is offered only in some universities with various patterns of teaching and learning.

This research surveys formats and status of pedagogical approaches, as well as challenges and difficulties in entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship (education to foster a sustainable mindset and sustainable lifestyle for students in Thai universities Group 1: Global and Frontier Research Universities, and Group 2: Technology and Innovation Universities, as classified under Thailand’s Reinventing University project. Data were collected using a questionnaire from 14 lecturers who are responsible for courses under these disciplines. The findings indicated that 50 % of the lecturers anticipated their students would be able to utilize entrepreneurial skills in addressing societal issues. The data further revealed that the majority of teaching and learning activities employed action-based methods that emphasize experiential learning. The primary obstacle in this endeavor was effective communication and fostering understanding among all stakeholders, particularly between teachers and learners, as well as among teachers from diverse disciplines.
