The Effect of Open-Ended Story Telling Activity on Creativity of The 1st Grade Early Childhood Students in Schools under Ubon Ratchathani City Municipal

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the effect of Open-ended Story Telling Activity on the creative thinking of the 1stgrade early childhood students in schools under Ubon Ratchathani  City Municipal, and to compare the creative thinking of the 1stgrade  early childhood students before and after the implementation of  Open-ended Story Telling Activity.  The sample included 18 students of 1stgrade  early childhood of  1/3 class in Tad-sa Barn 4 Anubarn prachaoyai Ongtue , Naimuang Sub-district, Muang District, Ubon Ratchathai Province in the academic year of 2018  ,they were selected by using simple random sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of the Integrate activity plans in experiences and creative activities using Open-ended Story Telling Activities. The activities plans included 5 units, there were My Family Unit, Miracle Rice Unit, Vegetable and Fruit Unit, Living and Non-living Unit, and Ideal Profession Unit, each of unit consisted 5 activities plans and totally 25 plans. The quality of activities plan consisted of 4 aspect, it was appropriateness at the highest level with mean score of 4.52, for the aspects of accuracy, congruency, and feasibility were at the high levels, with mean scores of 4.14, 4.15, and 4.36 respectively. The evaluation form was 13 items creative thinking test of early childhood using picture technique, with the index of item objective congruence between 0.67-1.00, the difficulty index tween 0.33-0.79, the discrimination index between 0.22-0.96, and the reliability was 0.86. The statistics used for data analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for One Sample and t-test for Dependent Sample.

 

The research findings were as follows:

  1. The learning outcome of implementing Open-ended Story Telling Activity on creativity thinking of the early childhood revealed that before implementing the activities, students’ creative thinking according to the criterion of 60 percentage, students did not pass the criterion 100 percent, it was at low level (=20.58, S.D.=8.19) and lower than the criterion at the statistically significance 0 .05 level. After implementing the activity, it revealed that students’ creative thinking according to the criterion of 60 percentage, students were passed the criterion 100 percentage, it was at moderate level (=64.19, S.D.=7.38) and higher than the criterion at the statistically significance 0.05 level.
  2. The comparison of early childhood students’ creative thinking before and after the implementing Open-ended Story Telling Activity found that early childhood students’ creative thinking after implementing the activities was higher than before at the statistically significance 0 .05 level.
