God Rama in the Palace of God Intra

The Kingdom of Ayutthaya ( 1350-1767 A.D. ) had 34 kings. Official names of most kings was Ramathibodi, an incarnation of God Visnu to restore the world order in Brahmanism. The name Ayutthaya itself was the name of Rama’s capital city in Ramayana. The name of grand palaces in Ayutthaya, however, was Phaichayont which belonged to God Indra. This researcher found out that the Ayuttayan kingship was in fact a neat combination of local animism, Brahmanism, and Buddhism respectively. The kings of Ayutthaya were, hence, not only the respected spirits who were able to bring about good weather necessary for prosperous agriculture, but the ones who came to restore the world to peace and happiness as God Visnu and the ones who came to help the people to the state of niravana as God Indra in Buddhism as well.
