Components, Indicators and Causal Factors Affecting Citizenship of Vocational Students under Department of Local Administration

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: to develop components and indicators affecting citizenship of vocational students under Department of Local Administration; to study causal factors affecting citizenship of vocational students under Department of Local Administration; and to examine congruence between the model and the empirical data. The research procedures consisted of two phases. For Phase I, regarding causal model construction, the researcher investigated and synthesized conceptual frameworks, theories, and related studies; and interviewed five experts by using the structured-questionnaire. For Phase II, regarding investigation of congruent model with empirical data, the researcher used the six-point Likert-scale questionnaire to collect data from 320 vocational students under Department of Local Administration. The questionnaire was designed to analyze information by synthesizing components of citizenship and analyzing causal relationship of the factors, and path analysis by using a computer program.

              All four components of citizenship were positive ranged between 0.76 – 0.75 at a statistical significance level of .01. In addition, the most significant indicators were diligence and public mind with a common factor loading of 0.875, followed by discipline with a factor loading of 0.831. Loyalty was ranked as the lowest indicator with a factor loading of 0.767. Moreover, the holistic practical level of causal factors affecting citizenship of the vocational students was at a high level. Considering the factors individually, the practical level of most factors was at a high level. The holistic practical level of components affecting citizenship of vocational students was at a high level. Considering the components individually, the practical level of all components was at a high level. Regarding the citizenship model, after being modified in order to become consistent with the empirical data, of vocational students, the statistics were ² = 883.10, df = 253, P-value = 0.000, CFI = 0.907, TLI = 0.889, SRMR = 0.049, RMSEA = 0.088. The analysis showed that the citizenship of the vocational students were directly affected by significant causal factor which was perception of news via media. However, regarding the relationship between the causal factors affecting citizenship of the vocational students, the highest factor was perception of news via media, followed by future orientation and self-regulation. Those causal factors in the model could explain the variance of citizenship of the vocational students at 74.00 percent
