The Role of Civil Society Organizations in Area Development for Trang Province

This study aimed to investigate the role of civil society organizations in area development for Trang Province. This research was advanced as qualitative research reviewing relevant documents and resources together with an in-depth interview method. A total number of 11 respondents was purposively selected among civil society leaders and practitioners. The content analysis was deployed to process the secondary data and the thematic analysis was employed to analyze the interview responses. As for the findings, this study reveals that civil society organizations in Trang Province play a key role in the area development expanding over four areas: 1) Supporting the underprivileged in society by ensuring their access to benefits, welfare, aids, and fair treatment, 2) Preserving cultural revival and local wisdom by creating knowledge, coordinating working partners for conservation, maintenance, development, and enhancement of local culture and wisdom, 3) Conserving environmental and natural resources by preserving mangrove forests, natural forests, and marine and coastal resources, while securing proper land claims, waste management, and ecological abundance, and 4) Promoting the economy by boosting the hospitality and tourism industry in terms of activities pattern and quality of products and services. This study suggests that outstanding civil society organizations should be recognized in addition to the assistance put forth for their organizational development and sustainability.
