Food packaging in the Isan folk way, traditions, beliefs and rituals

Abstract

The article entitled food packaging in the Isan folk way, traditions, beliefs and rituals is an academic article aimed to analyze the relationship between food packaging in Isan folk ways and traditions, beliefs and rituals. The majority of people now living in the northeastern area utilize their traditions, beliefs, and rituals as frameworks or rules for their lives until the establishment of a culture that is part of the social structure in the Isan folk way. This article reports the study of data from literature reviews together with the observations and interviews regarding food packaging patterns in the Isan folk way as found in the markets and other places in the northeastern region, and the analysis of the relationship between food packaging styles and traditions, beliefs and rituals that Isan people adhere to and practice through the concept of the Structural-Functionalism Theory. The correlation analysis results reveal that traditions, beliefs and rituals were factors determining the form of food packaging, both in appearance and use. As a result, if traditions, beliefs, and rituals are passed down and practiced, they may be utilized as guidelines for conserving traditional food packing patterns, allowing future generations to see and appreciate the wisdom that the ancestors have developed together.
