Abstract

The objectives of this research are: 1) To Study and distinguish contemporary characteristics and historical significance of Qingxu.  2) Analyze the aesthetic and cultural connotations contained in the image art style of Qingxu brick carving.  3) Analyze the cultural symbols of Qingxu brick carving in architectural design. This research is qualitative research by means of literary research Qingxu brick carving as a concept from ancient times to the present. Analysis of the origin and development of Qingxu brick carving. Analyze the historical background and cultural environment, summarize and distinguish cultural values. Based on on-site inspection, carving styles in architecture are extracted. Symbols, composition, images and carving techniques are analyzed brick in architecture.


        The research found that:  1) Qingxu brick carving began in the period 1029 BC. It is a unique regional culture. In 1368, the art of brick carving entered its heyday. In addition to being used by the royal family, it was also used as a residence for citizens.  2) The aesthetics and cultural meaning of Qingxu brick carving combines Confucian culture, Taoist culture, Historical culture and Folk culture.  3) In Chinese history the blue brick building is an old and simple cultural symbol that embraces traditional aesthetics in architectural design
