CREATIVE CONTEMPORARY LANDSCAPE PAINTING: AN INTERPRETATION OF AESTHETICS AND DYNAMIC MOVEMENT AT BAN WANG BEN RICE FIELDS VIA IMPASTO TECHNIQUE

Abstract

This creative research aimed to: (1) study the physical and aesthetic context of the landscape of Ban Wang Ben, Thong Saen Khan District, Uttaradit Province; and (2) create a series of landscape paintings that convey impressions and emotions through the Impasto technique, inspired by Post-Impressionism and the artistic concepts of Singkhon Phakdee (2016). The research process focused on transforming aesthetic values from visual reality—represented by lush green rice fields and complex mountainous terrain—into emotional reality through the language of visual art. The findings revealed that the balanced proportion between background space and sky, the use of spots of color to construct forms, and the establishment of directional movement through vigorous brushstrokes effectively generated a sense of dynamic energy. This approach was found to communicate the movement of the wind and the refreshing atmosphere of the landscape more effectively than realistic representation. The resulting body of work serves as a testament to an inner journey, transforming long-held memories into tangible material forms upon the canvas.
