Factors Affecting Decisions to Enroll in the Home Economics Program of the Faculty of Education at Ramkhamhaeng University

Abstract

This survey research aimed 1) Study the factor affecting the students’ decision to enroll the Home Economics Program at Faculty of Education Ramkhamhaeng University. and 2) Compare the factors affecting the students’ decision to enroll the Home Economics Program at Faculty of Education, Ramkhamhaeng University to the gender, age, major, family earning and student earning. The samples of the study were 255 undergraduate students enrolling in the Department of Home Economics in 2015 academic year, the size of the samples was determined using the Krejcie Morgan Table, They were then stratified sampling.


The material in this research was the 43questionnaires about the factor affecting the students Decision to enroll the Home Economics Program at Faculty of Education Ramkhamhaeng University which is 5 rating scales. The reliability of this questionnairs was 0.96 was used to collect data. Analysis of data for frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-value, F-value and Scheffe’s Post Hoc paired comparison, was done using a computer software program.


The survey indicate a number of finding as follows:


  1. The overall and specific factors affecting the students’ decisions to enroll in the Home Economics Program were at a high level, in the following descending order: University image, Instructors, Curriculum, Implementation, Facility, and Instructional Media.

  2. Comparisons of these factors in terms of gender, age, majors, family earning, and student earning revealed the followings:

2.1 Male and Female students did not differ significantly in their decisions to enroll in the Program, overall and individually.


2.2 Students differed in age were no significantly different in their decisions to enroll in Program both overall and individually, except in Facility and Instructional Media which were significantly different at the .05 level


2.3 Students in different majors did not differ significantly in their decisions overall and individually, except in Implementation and Instructional which were significantly different at the .05 level.


2.4. Students with different family earning and monthly earning did not differ significantly in their decisions, overall and regarding individual factors.


2.5 Students with different monthly earning did not differ significantly in their decisions, overall and individually.
