Factors Related to Adjustment of the First-year Undergraduate Students at Dusit Thani College

Abstract

The purposes of this study were 1) to study factors affecting an adjustment of the first-year undergraduate students at Dusit Thani College in terms of education, instructors, friends environmental and activities.  2) to compare the independent variables to the acclimation of the first-year students of Dusit Thani College to the college life; and 3) to study important variables that affect the first-year undergraduate students at Dusit Thani College. This study was a survey research. A sample of 300 have drawn from 689 first-year students of Dusit Thani College in Semester 1 Academic 2017 using simple random sampling method. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires on student personal information, emotional intelligence, acclimation, parenting and goal setting. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple regression.


The findings were as follows: 1) personality, emotional intelligence, parenting, and study goal setting influencing the acclimation of the first-year students of Dusit Thani College to the college life with the average score of; study 2.72, instructor 3.05, classmate 3.06, environment 2.82 and college activities 2.84. 2) The first-year students of Dusit Thani College could acclimate themselves to the college life differently with a statistically difference at 0.01. 3) Personality, emotional intelligence, parenting, and study goal setting influencing the acclimation of the first-year students of Dusit Thani College to the college life in the overall of 61.4% with the error value of 0.419.
