Factors Affecting Community Participation in Managing the Phra That Phon Cultural Tourism Destination, Xayphouthong District, Savannakhet Province, Lao People's Democratic Republic

Abstract
This quantitative study aimed to 1) investigate a level of community participation in the management of Phra That Phon cultural tourism destination, Xayphouthong district, Savannakhet province, Lao P.D.R and 2) to develop a model of Phra That Phon cultural destination management. A set of questionnaire forms were used for collecting data under purposive sampling of 155 people consisting of local people, local leaders and representatives from public sector. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and One – Way ANOVA. Finding the result show that, as a whole, the respondents have a moderate level of the participation in the management of Phra That Phon cultural tourism destination ( = 3.26). The was based on benefit sharing, planning, decision making and assessment. Only project implementation was found at
a high level. For hypothesis testing, classified by personal factors indicated that the respondents with different age and occupation had an effect on the level of participation with a statistically significance level 0.05. The community participation model in managing the Phra That Phon cultural tourism destination, should be increased in the planning, benefits allocated, and appropriate health benefits processes.
