The Traveling Behavior of the Baby Boomer Generation in Bangkok

Abstract
This research aims to (1) study the traveling behavior of the baby boomer generation in Bangkok; (2) compare the traveling behavior between different demographic groups and (3) investigate the relationship between psychological and socio-cultural factors with traveling behavior. A mixed method approach was employed in this research. Questionnaires and unstructured interviews were used. The sample of this study consists of 312 baby boomers in Bangkok and 30 representatives of related public and private tourism organizations in Thailand. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This study revealed that (1) most baby boomers prefer traveling as a group for relaxation. They manage their travel by themselves. They like to travel to places of natural beauty in Thailand together with their families. They travel 2-3 times a year, especially on weekends. (2) The traveling behavior of baby boomers differed in accordance with their level of education and the length of residence in Bangkok with a difference at the 0.01 level of significance. (3) There are positive relationships between baby boomers’ psychological and social and cultural factors at the 0.01 level of significance.
