Abstract
“Cultural Heritage Protection Lawyers: Using Law for the Protection of Local Cultural Heritage” is a book about the legal methods and regulatory techniques used in local cultural heritage protection. The book has been divided into 5 parts. The first part provides an introduction to community rights and cultural heritage conservation and the second chapter presents law on the protection of historical premises and the potential of community participation. The next chapter cover the law on the conservation of archaeological and cultural heritage sites. In the fourth chapter, the authors discuss case studies in community engagement within the context of local communities’ cultural heritage conservation. In the last chapter, the authors bring together the findings of research on the local community engagement practice of cultural heritage partnerships in community rights under Thailand’s legislation and international frameworks. Interestingly, the book’s purpose was to support further learning across local cultural heritage conservation initiatives in Thailand, with the main output consisting of a set of case studies illustrating good legal practice and highlighting key learning points for supporting Thailand’s communities to engage in collaborative and partnership responses to the local cultural heritage issues.
