Research-Based Learning Approach to Enhance the 11th grade Students’ Competency in Evaluating and Designing Scientific Enquiry and Teamwork Skills on Plant Reproduction and Growth

Abstract

The purposes of classroom action research were 1) to study research-based learning approach to enhance the 11^th grade students’ competency in evaluating and designing scientific enquiry and teamwork skills on plant reproduction and growth, 2) to study the development of evaluating and designing scientific enquiry competency, and 3) to study the development of teamwork skills. Research participants were 32 eleventh grade students by purposive sampling. Research tools include lesson plan by using research-based learning, Reflection record, Competency evaluation form, Learning record form and work pieces of students and Teamwork skills assessment form. Data were analyzed by using content analysis. The findings found that the learning management should include 6 steps: (1) Defining problem, (2) Research designing /Data collection methods, (3) Collecting data, (4) Analyzing data and summary of results, (5) Presenting results, and (6) Evaluating. Most students (64.52 percent) developed competency at a high level because it gives opportunity for students to participate in assessing their own learning and their classmate. In addition, most students developed team work skill in terms of understanding the cultural differences the most (4.46). Finally, the learning management should emphasize students to think critically and propose creatively.
