Phronesis leadership: Anand Panyarachun

Abstract

          The research aims to study a biography and works of Anand Panyarachun by applying the concept of “wise leadership” The Six Abilities of Phronesis Leaders developed by Ikujiro Nonaka and Hirotaka Takeuchi to analyses Anand’s case study. It employs two methodologies: documentary research and semi-structured interview. This study will develop a model of wise leadership and trials it into a teaching notes on practical wise leadership that were appropriate and consistency to Thai context.

          This research found that Anand Panyarachun is a wise leader by having 6 abilities of Wise leadership, including ability to make judgement on goodness; the ability to grasp the essence of particular situations/things; the ability to create ba; the ability to articulate the essence; the ability to exercise political power and the ability to foster phronesis in others. In addition, Anand Panyarachun was found to have nine characteristics of leadership in this research: vision, frankness, work with a focus on Result oriented, dare to make decisions, compromise, the spirit of teamwork, leadership, transparency and strategy.
