Abstract

This academic article is a research on the creation of a performance related to Songkran festival of Luang Prabang. The objective is to educate the history of Songkran New Year tradition of Luang Prabang, Lao People's Democratic Republic and also create the performing arts series (Som Sei Kha buon Hae Nang Sangkhan) The study is collecting data from the document, field work surveying, observing, and interviewing 4 knowledgeable people, 26 actors and 10 ordinary people. The research instruments are surveys, observations and structured and unstructured interviews. The result found that Nang Sangkhan was important to Songkran festival in Laos. It is believed that Nang Sangkhan is a woman who won the beauty contest. This position was changed every year. She has a distinctive appearance. Moreover, the study found that Luang Prabang is a world heritage city where has many interesting traditions. The research team has applied the principles of dramatic art to set up ideas, process data, music and dancing postures that is beautiful and aesthetic. Songkran Festival in Luang Prabang is a relationship between local and people. The creation of dancing art which is called Som Sei Kha buon Hae Nang Sangkhan. It is a dramatic phenomenon that will inherit the culture. Songkran New Year which clearly show the relationship as mentioned.
