THE CONCEPT OF EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO PROMOTE GREEN VALUES FOR LEARNERS IN AUSTRALIA: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT IN THAILAND

The global economic transition and expansion without effective preparation has significant impact on environment. At present, the rise in global awareness on environmental issues derives in the concept of sustainable development and lead to the Green Economy concept. To achieve green economy, human development, especially children, is mandatory as these people will become the key actors establishing the Green Economy. Thus, school is crucial mechanism to create Green Values by educating and developing green economy beliefs and capability of the students. Australia see the importance in promoting green values in education. Green values is incorporated in Australia's nation values and the concept is cascaded down to education management, including education guidelines and learning activities that are appropriate for various learning age. Comparing to Thailand, education administration aims to promote eco-friendly quality of living; however, there is no clear or practical policy and action plan in promoting green values in education. It is necessary for Ministry of Education to develop explicit policy and cascading to schools for effective education management towards green values and green economy.
