Knowledge Management of City Planning Laws on Increasing Green Areas: A Case Study of Ban Tha Khon Yang Community, Kantharawichai District, Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to manage knowledge of city planning laws on increasing green areas in Ban Tha Khon Yang Community, Kantharawichai District, Maha Sarakham Province. Twenty key informants were community leaders and members of Moo 3 Ban Tha Khon Yang. The main research method is Tuna Model. The research started with field surveys, community context analysis and interviews with related persons. The data obtained was then used in organizing knowledge-sharing activities under the title of Knowledge Management of City Planning Laws on Increasing Green Areas. Reserach results showed that community members became more aware of their right of participation in legislations relating to environmental management for increasing green areas in community areas. They were also aware of their right to compensation when a certain agency cut trees in private lands to pave the way for construction of electric poles. Moreover, they gained more knowledge on Isaan (Northeast) concept of trees in neighborhood. The ultimate goal of the concept was to provide safeguards for trees in community areas to achieve utmost growth. Consequently, big trees could guarantee green areas as well as promote sustainability of the community.
