Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the characteristic of public participation, problems/obstacles and the approach of promoting people participation in the development of local public affairs in the area of Pung Tui Tambon Administration Organization, Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province. The data obtained from the quantitative research and qualitative research to be applied in collecting and analyzing the data to cover both content and statistics. This will result in a deeper understanding of the study phenomena better. The instruments used in the study were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, the samples were 356 inhabitants living in the area of Pung Tui Subdistrict and relevant officers, The data were analyzed, and gave the summary and recommendations by descriptive statistics and numerical statistics were used.

The findings indicated that the people Subdistrict participated in the development of local public affairs at a high level, starting from searching for the problem, analyzing the causes and solutions in order to determine the steps and methods of operation to be in accordance with the local environment and potential. In terms of problems and obstacles, respondents have a low level of understanding their scopes and roles in contributing to the local development. This may lead to delay the projects and activities of the local area. The approach for promotion and enhancement of participation may include promoting and supporting the provision of learning resources within the community, as well as the use of technology to enable the people to be able to follow the information. In addition, they can express opinions through convenient communication channels more quickly. Therefore, the participation is the important guarantee that it will make people live happily and sustainably in the local area.
