Organizational Structure and Components of Employees’ Core Competencies in Destination Management Companies (DMC) Preparing Destinations for Incentive Travel

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study 1) the organizational structure of Destination Management Companies (DMC) and 2) components of their employees’ Core Competencies. This study was qualitative research. There were in total 18 key informants to participate in this research. They were 1 academic focusing on incentive travel, 4 executive staffs in public and private organizations, 7 general managers of DMCs and 6 human resource managers in DMCs. The key informants were randomly selected by using purposive sampling and snowball techniques. The results showed 1) the DMCs organizational structure can be divided into 3 types (Matrix Structure, Team Structure and Virtual Structure) and 2) Employees’ Core Competencies of DMCs were separated into 4 competencies with 39 indicators; 5 knowledge indicators, 13 skills indicators, 10 attitude indicators and 11 attributions indicators.
