The Study of Problems and Obstacles in the Operation of Collecting Evidence of Police Officers in Suppressing Car Theft: Case Study of Metropolitan Police Division 2

Abstract

The inquiry officer is responsible for investigating when a crime occurs and taking action regarding alleged legal duties to prove the facts and bring the suspect punished by law. Therefore, the inquiry officer must have extensive knowledge and  experience for an efficient investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to realize how inquiry officer from a division of the Metropolitan police division 2 use their procedure and professional skills to manage the car theft case. This study performed in-depth interviews. The target group was 11 inquiry officers from the division of the metropolitan police 2 (1 person per each police station). We found that the inquiry officers from 11 stations are consistent with the procedure, including the process of collecting evidence in the car theft investigation.  Therefore, this study could be used as an operation guideline and to improve investigations' efficiency. Consequently, we recommend that authorities establish an international standard policy for evidence collection and research of car theft cases.
