A Model for Effective Plastic Waste Management in Thailand: Review of Waste management in International Level

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to identify the factors affecting the involvement in efficient plastic waste management in Thailand; 2) to compare the efficiency of international plastic waste management models with those in Thailand; and 3) to suggest models for the enforcement of regulations and legal frameworks, as well as approaches to enhance cooperation from groups within society for more effective plastic waste management. This research uses mixed-methods research, divided into two data collection parts: the first involves collecting quantitative data via questionnaires from a sample of 400 people, and the final part involves collecting qualitative data through in-depth interviews and group discussions with in-depth analysis from information obtained from specialists in each specific area.

The research findings included the following: 1) the majority are interested in participating in the reduction of plastic waste, the most significant factor affecting plastic waste management; 2) international plastic waste management models, particularly in the target countries, are clearly defined, and the residents of those countries have a strong sense of social and environmental responsibilities, which is vitally important to the effectiveness of plastic waste management at the global level; and 3) for Thailand, the enactment of such laws plays a significant role in changing the behavior of citizens. However, enforcing these laws among the public can be difficult. There must be motivation created for societal groups, pushing for the development of a culture that prioritizes environmental conservation as a collective social responsibility and involvement of multiple actions from all relevant sectors simultaneously
