The development of Khon Kaen City through the Creative District Concept: A Case Study of Sri Chan District, Khon Kaen City, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

The purposes of the research were; to investigate the history and the status of Srichan Creative District project in Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province, to find the lesson learned and to provide the guideline for develop Srichan Creative District. This research is mixed-methods approach combining documentary research and qualitative research. In the documentary research component, historical information about the Srichan area and its past developments was collected. Qualitative methods were employed to gather information on the experiences and knowledge of stakeholders involved in the development of the neighborhood. This qualitative approach allows for a deeper understanding of the subjective perspectives and insights of those engaged in the Srichan Creative District Project. The research findings showed that; the development of the Srichan Creative District in Khon Kaen involved a project known as the Srichan Creative District. This road had historically been a main route in Khon Kaen, as a central artery through the city. Over time, as government centers relocated and the city expanded, the commercial activity in the area dwindled. The past development efforts in the Srichan area encompassed a variety of activities conducted in different ways. The project has contributed to the improvement and vitality of the Srichan Creative District. The lessons learned from the development operations of the Srichan Creative District can be categorized into five key factors: 1) Readiness and Potential of the Area, 2) Starting to Search for Problems and Needs, 3) Creating Participation and Cooperation in Work, 4) Support from Relevant Partners and External Agencies: and 5) Acceptance of the Community, Entrepreneurs, Shops, and Citizens. The commitment and support from the community, business owners, businesses, and residents are vital for the sustained success and acceptance of the developed area. These 5 keys actors affect to the success of the project.
