A Study of the Potential of the Elderly and the Satisfaction towards the Elderly Social Welfare Provision in Kohloy-Banghak Sub-district Administrative Organisation, Phantong District, Chonburi Province

Abstract

This research aimed to (1) study the level of potential among the elderly, (2) study the satisfaction level towards social welfare for the elderly, (3) study the correlation between the factors of potential among the elderly and the satisfaction level of social welfare among the elderly, and (4) provide guidelines for social welfare development. This research used mixed-methods research based on quantitative research and qualitative research. The population of this study was 746 elderly people who lived in Kohloy-Bankhak Sub-district Administrative Organisation, Phantong District, Chonburi Province, and the sample comprised 260 people selected by the simple random sampling method. A statistical program was used to analyse the statistics by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and correlation analysis. The key sources of the qualitative research included 7 key informants selected by purposive sampling. Content analysis was used for qualitative data analysis. The research found that (1) the overall potential of the elderly in Kohloy-Bankhak Sub-district Administrative Organisation was at a medium level, which was compatible with the results of interview data, and (2) the satisfaction level of social welfare among the elderly was at a high level. Similarly, the results of interview data found that the attitude with a positive relationship. (3) The factors of security for life were correlated with the satisfaction level of the elderly for social welfare at a statistical level of 0.05. Finally, (4) the guideline for increasing the effectiveness of social welfare development consisted of promoting activities and knowledge about nutrition among elderly people, including providing exercise programs for older people, promoting suitable elderly work, and providing elderly care by in-house caregiver support groups or local caregiver volunteers at home.
