Factors Affecting the Decision to Study at the Bachelor's Degree Level, Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University in Academic Year 2022

The objectives of this research were to study the factors influencing the decision to pursue undergraduate studies among students of the Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University, for the academic year 2022. The study population consisted of 516 first-year students who officially registered. The sample group was selected using purposive sampling, with 438 respondents, accounting for 84.89% of the sample. Data collection tools included a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. The reliability analysis showed a Cronbach's alpha coefficient ranging from 0.81 to 0.88, with an overall Cronbach's alpha of 0.84. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentages, means, standard deviations, t-tests, and ANOVA. The results revealed that most students who chose to study at the Faculty of Political Science, Ubon Ratchathani University, were those who confirmed their admission rights through the TCAS Round 1 Political Science Youth Camp Quota, accounting for 37.90% (166 students), followed by the TCAS Round 1 Portfolio Quota, accounting for 29.00% (127 students). Most of the students graduated from the Science-Mathematics program, accounting for 71.70% (314 students), followed by the Arts-Language program, accounting for 16.00% (70 students). When comparing the factors influencing the decision to pursue undergraduate studies, it was found that the institutional environment was a highly influential factor (Mean = 4.33, S.D. = 0.564), followed by the curriculum (Mean = 4.25, S.D. = 0.568), career prospects (Mean = 4.25, S.D. = 0.562), and the quality and reputation of the faculty (Mean = 4.22, S.D. = 0.527), respectively. The factor with the lowest mean was the economic and social aspect (Mean = 3.87, S.D. = 0.671). When comparing the overall factors influencing the decision to pursue further studies, there were no statistically significant differences between the sample groups in all aspects, as the p-value for all aspects was greater than 0.05
