The change of polarisation in political power and the change of politicians’ party by comparing the election result of 14 May 2023 with that of 24 March 2019

Abstract

The change of political polarisation is another aspect that needs discussing. According to the result of the National Election on 14 May 2023, the politicians who changed their party and political polarisation managed to be successful in four from eleven constituencies which is considered 36.36% (1) Bunthida Somchai from Bhumjaithai Party (moving from Democrat Party) in Constituency 8 which covers the area of Phibun Mangsahan District (except the Sub-District of Rawe and Sai Mun), Sawang Wirawong, and Na Yia District received 31,773 votes. Ekkaphon Yawong from Pheu Thai Party is the second with 27,893 votes.   (2) Sutthichai Charoonnet from Bhumjaithai Party (moving from Palang Pracharath Party) was a former MP of Pheu Thai Party in 2011. He then moved to Palang Pracharath and Bhumjaithai Party respectively. In Constituency 5 which covers the area of Trakan Phuetphon and Kutkhaopun District, Sutthichai Charoonnet won the election with 44, 121 votes. The second is Rattakit Paleepat from Pheu Thai Party with 30,596 votes and the third is Phethai Srisawat from Move Forward Party with 12,050 votes. (3) Duangthip Chintawet from Bhumjaithai Party (moving from Palang Pracharath Party) won the election in Constituency 11 which covers the area of Det Udom District (except the Sub-District of Thung Thoeng) with the score of 43,797 votes. The second is Ekachai Songamnatcharoen from Pheu Thai Party with 24,288 votes. The third is Phithakchai Chitchan from Move Forward Party with 13,069 votes and the fourth is Suriya Khanasa from Thai Sang Thai Party with 4,833 votes. (4) Ramphool Tantivanitchanon from Thai Sang Thai Party (moving from Palang Pracharath Party) won the election in Constituency 9 which covers the area of Buntharik, Nachaluai and Sirinthon (only in the Sub-District of Non Ko) with the score of 31,311 votes. The second is Praphusak Chintawet from Pheu Thai Party with 30,851 votes. The third is Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Banchong Inkhao from Move Forward Party with 12,105 votes and the fourth is Namtan Phuanglap from United Thai Nation Party with 1,613 votes.  This is different from the National Election on 24 March 2019 in which all the changes of political polarisation from Pheu Thai to Palang Pracharath Party were unsuccessful. None was elected. They were Yothakan Fong-ngam from Palang Pracharath (the daughter of Suphon Fong-ngam, a former MP of Ubon Ratchathani and the General-Secretary of Pheu Thai Party), Choetsak Phokkunlakanon who is the son of Adisak Phokkunlakanon (a former party list MP from Pheu Thai Party) and Sutthichai Charoonnet who was a former MP from Pheu Thai Pary in 2011.
