Adjustment of ethnic students at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University

Abstract

This research aims to study the ability to adjust and the need for university support to enhance the adjustment of ethnic students, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, using questionnaires as a research tool. The statistics used to analyze the data were percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results showed that Ethnic students studying at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University come from a variety of ethnic groups. The ethnic students with the largest numbers are Karen and Hmong, who are domiciled in different provinces in the upper North, coming from Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son the most. Most of the students come from families where their parents live together. There are 1-2 brothers and sisters with parents, whose parents are uneducated and work as farmers. Students receive monthly expenses of approximately 2001-3,000 baht, most of which indicate that they are sufficient. In case of insufficient, they may use the method of hiring or working to earn extra income to earn more. Ethnic students indicated that the reasons for choosing to study at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University were: there are a variety of courses to choose from according to needs., tuition fees are not very high, quality teaching, and the location of the university is not far from their former hometown, respectively. Regarding the adjustment of ethnic students, it was found that the student’s overall adjustment was at a moderate level (X=2.83). when categorizing four aspects related to university adjustment, in order of average value, institutional (X=2.97), social (X=2.96), academic (X=2.82), and personal-emotional (X=2.62), respectively. Regarding the need for support from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University to support various adjustment measures and activities, it was found that the largest number of ethnic students wanted the university to provide various special jobs for ethnic students to earn while studying.
