AI Policy
Policy and Guidelines on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Manuscript Preparation
Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University recognizes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to facilitate research. However, to ensure that the use of AI does not conflict with publication ethics—which emphasize academic responsibility, accuracy and integrity of data, transparency, respect for intellectual property rights, and confidentiality—the editorial board has established the following policy and guidelines regarding the use of AI in manuscript preparation for all parties concerned.
Authors
1. Authors are the creators of intellectual work. AI serves only as a tool. The ideas and arguments presented in the manuscript must originate from the author.
2. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript. Therefore, all information generated or obtained from AI must be carefully checked by the author.
3. Authors are responsible for any errors, data distortion, copyright infringement, intellectual property violations, or breaches of publication ethics that may result from the use of AI in conducting research. AI tools or their developers must not be listed as authors, as AI cannot provide consent or take responsibility for the content of a manuscript.
4. Authors must disclose the use of AI for transparency purposes. The disclosure must appear at the end of the article before the references under the heading: "Declaration of Generative AI in Scientific Writing." The disclosure must specify :
- The name and version of the AI tool used (e.g., ChatGPT 4.0, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot);
- A clear description of how the AI was used in the preparation of the manuscript.
However, authors are not required to disclose AI use if it was used solely for language editing of a manuscript that was originally written by the author.
5. The use of AI to write the manuscript is not permitted. AI may be used to assist in organizing references. The language appearing in the manuscript must be written by the author to avoid academic plagiarism. The content of the article must be created by the author and not automatically generated by AI. However, for Thai-language manuscripts, authors may use AI to assist in revising the English abstract.
6. The use of AI to fabricate, manipulate, or falsify data, images, or references is strictly prohibited.
7. AI may be used for language editing, coding assistance, statistical data analysis, and modeling, provided that such use does not conflict with other provisions of this policy.
8. Authors are responsible for understanding the journal’s policy and guidelines on the use of AI in manuscript preparation. Submission of a manuscript constitutes acceptance of this policy. Violations may result in rejection or retraction of the article.
Reviewers
1. Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts by themselves and should not use AI to conduct peer review.
2. Reviewers must not upload the manuscript, any part of the manuscript, or their review comments into AI systems, as this may result in intellectual property infringement or breach of confidentiality.
3. If reviewers suspect that a manuscript under review has used AI in violation of the journal’s policy, they must immediately inform the editor.
Editor-in-Chief
1. The editor must conduct the initial assessment of manuscripts by himself or herself and should not use AI to evaluate submissions.
2. The editor must not upload manuscripts or any part of them into AI systems, as this may result in intellectual property infringement or breach of confidentiality.
3. In cases of suspected violations of the AI policy, the editor’s decision shall be final.
Editorial Board Actions
The editorial board reserves the right to use AI-detection tools at its discretion. Inappropriate or policy-violating use of AI constitutes a breach of publication ethics. The editorial board has the right to reject or retract articles accordingly.
This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted for consideration from 1 October 2025 onward.
