Sapphasitthi Khamchanda : Adapting Jataka to literature

Abstract

The aim of this article is to study Sapphasitthi Khamchanda, written by Somdet Phra Maha Samana Chao Kromma Phra Paramanuchitchinorot, about adapting Jataka to a verse literature. The studying found that  Somdet Phra Maha Samana Chao Kromma Phra Paramanuchitchinorot keep some of the main stories such as the original in the literature, but also use the custom in writing Thai literature which is beginning with Bot Wai Kru and ending with the writer’s information. About adapting the stories, found that he added the new stories in the old one, so it makes the stories better and it makes the readers easily see  the characteristic of the characters. However, Sapphasitthi Khamchanda  shows the way of adapting this literature of  Somdet Phra Maha Samana Chao Kromma Phra Paramanuchitchinorot that he really gives precedence to describe the backgrounds. Moreover, he also changes and cut some details of this stories for shorten the long stories which is his great writing ability.
