Thai Higher Education and New Steps towards World University Rankings

World university rankings increasingly play a role in Thai higher education; they are as the factor that increases opportunities for higher education institutes to access international learners, parents, academics, researchers, collaboration, and funds. Meanwhile, the world university rankings are useful to administration and decision-making in regard to institutional and national policy implementation. Unfortunately, the phenomenon appears among long-time opposition with doubts on the rankings’ validity and reliability, cost-effectiveness, and competitive advantages and disadvantages. Thus, the paper aims to find points of agreement between the social conflict perspectives to the world university rankings, and presents six pathways: 1) a study of ranking agents’ assessment criteria 2) human resources development 3) acceleration of academic work production 4) driving agent establishment 5) effective database system and 6) data analysis for improvement, for Thai higher education institutes to step to the world university rankings
