Measures for Protection of Thai Children under Gambling Problem in Maesod – Myawaddy Border

Abstract

This article has an objective of searching a preventive guideline of gambling problem of youth in Maesod - Myawaddy border from many sectors such as government sector, civil society, and local citizens.  The researcher selects (Qualitative Research) for finding out the results.  The results consist of 3 issues; 1. Measures for protection of Thai children under gambling problem of provincial and local administrative officer such as time restriction of the border crossing, signage campaign for problem gambling awareness, committee establishment for setting monthly meeting with relevant department, etc. 2. Academy’s measures for protection of Thai children under gambling problem such as moral camp establishment, module setting to build gambling harm awareness, teacher committee establishment for visiting students, academy activity encouragement, etc. 3. Civil society’s measures for protection of Thai children under gambling problem in Maesod – Myawaddy border such as campaign for educating children on gambling problem, requesting for cooperation from local boat operator and government sector to supervise children, building deep awareness for children and youth with encouragement of villagers & community leader along with red-zone-area school, etc. The research’s suggestions are shown as below; 1. To supervise children strictly by representative of government sector and civil society. 2. To establish working group comprising government sector and civil society for educating and updating local people gambling information. 3. To establish local committee for communicating and monitoring gambling problem of children. 4. To write a local constitution in a referendum with main gambling problem-related topic.
